SALT

SALT2

“Named after the paakai (Hawaiian for “salt”) ponds that once dotted the low-lying wetlands of this area, SALT at Our Kakaako is Honolulu’s epicenter for local culture, food, shopping and innovative events. Comprising of 85,000 square-feet of curated retail, restaurant and mixed-use space, SALT is a dynamic city block designed for exploration and engagement.” – Our Kaka’ako

What better way to start this blog than a post about a new beginning? A Pinch of Salt is part of “Our Kaka’ako” one of Kamehameha School’s efforts to create an area of “local businesses and unique events.” They want to breath new life into this part of our island and make it into an innovative and welcoming community of 9 city blocks. A Pinch of Salt is only one of the many plans to recreate this area of Oahu.

On December 7th, SALT opened up a preview to celebrate the holidays. Basically, SALT is compiled of multiple local venders selling their unique products in a repurposed warehouse. These products includes different flavored salts, baby shoes and blankets, necklaces, bags and much more! I believe that they are hoping to set up shop permanently in early 2016. Can you believe that 2016 starts in only a few days?

Going to SALT inspired me to blog again. I want to be a part of this new wave of islanders. Not only that, I want to prove that O’ahu is more than just beaches, hula dancers and extravagance. This is more than just a vacation hotspot!  O’ahu is developing into a more modern area and we deserve to be known for more than just a good time. We should be known for our artists, innovators, entrepreneurs, chefs and writers. But I suppose it does help to live in a beautiful place! 😀
